Swiss driver Sebastien Buemi, who is supported by Red Bull, moved up to Formula 1 after runner-up championships in the ADAC Formula BMW in 2005, the Formula 3 Euro Series in 2007 and GP2 Asia Series in 2008, where he contested a total of 55 races for Toro Rosso between 2009 and 2011. He then became a test and reserve driver for the Red Bull Racing and Toro Rosso/AlphaTauri teams, respectively.

Since 2012, Buemi, whose grandfather Georges Gachnang competed in the 1960 Le Mans 24 Hours, has been active in the World Endurance Championship with Toyota Gazoo Racing. He was World Champion there in 2014 and 2018/19. Buemi also won the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans a total of four times in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2022.

In Formula E, Buemi has been competing since the very first race in 2014. In the second season (2015/16), he became the drivers' champion with Renault e.dams. Buemi is also one of the most successful drivers in Formula E history: He finished each of the first six seasons in the top four and holds numerous records, such as the one for the most race wins or pole positions. After two rather mixed seasons without a race win, Buemi left the team in 2023 and moved to Envision. Things were looking up again for the Swiss driver, even though he once again failed to win a race this season.
