Roberto Merhi sat behind the wheel of a Formula E racing car for the first time in an official session during the 2023 rookie test in Berlin. The Spaniard has plenty of experience in formula racing and won the Formula 3 Euro Series in 2011. After two years in the DTM, he switched to Formula 1 via Formula Renault 3.5, where he drove for Manor Marussia in 2015. He then went on to race in endurance and GT racing in addition to Formula 2.
During the 2023 Jakarta E-Prix, Merhi made his Formula E race debut after Oliver Rowland vacated his Mahindra cockpit mid-season. He drove seven races for the team, with his best result being P12 in Rome. He lost his cockpit at the end of the season and was replaced by former champion Nyck de Vries.
