Sam Bird is one of Formula E's fan favorites - not least because of his humorous character. But the Briton can also impress with talent: After a rapid rise through British junior series such as Formula BMW, Formula Renault and the Formula 3 Euroseries in the 2000s, Bird reached the GP2 championship. There, between 2010 and 2013 - albeit with a one-year break - he recorded the runner-up title in 2013, in addition to numerous race wins and podiums.

Since then, Bird has been involved in the GT class of the WEC with Ferrari's AF-Corse team as well as in Formula E, where he has impressed with consistently good performances since the first race in the fall of 2014.

Bird contested the first six seasons for the Virgin team. The 2017/18 season was Bird's most successful: He still had title chances until the last E-Prix and ultimately finished the season in third place overall. Before the 2021 season, Bird moved from Virgin to Jaguar Racing, where he has been active ever since. He was the only race driver in the series to win at least one race in each of the first seven seasons. For the 2024 season, Bird switched to McLaren.
