Sakon Yamamoto drove for Super Aguri, Spyker and HRT in Formula 1 in 2006, 2007 and 2010, but failed to score any points. He later became a test driver in the "premier class," among other things. In Formula E, he took the wheel again - at least for two races at the 2015 London E-Prix - for his old team boss Aguri Suzuki.
After his guest appearance, Yamamoto largely retired from motorsports to pursue a "second career" in politics. In 2021, he entered Japan's House of Representatives for the first time as a member of parliament for the Liberal Democratic LDP party.
