Antonio Giovinazzi competed in the European Formula 3 Championship between 2013 and 2015 before moving to the GP2 series in 2016. In 2017, he made his Formula 1 debut for Sauber, where he competed as a regular driver for Alfa Romeo between 2019 and 2021.

Giovinazzi's first point of contact with Formula E came during the 2018 official rookie test, where the Italian competed for DS Virgin Racing. For the 2022 season - shortly after his Formula 1 retirement - Dragon Penske Autosport signed him as a regular driver. However, after a difficult season, he left Formula E again to compete in the World Endurance Championship with Ferrari. Here he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2023.
