Pascal Wehrlein - son of a German and a Mauritian - started karting in 2003. After switching to formula racing, he won the championship title in the ADAC Formula Masters in 2011 and was runner-up in the Formula 3 Euro Series a year later. At the age of 18, he made his debut for Mercedes in the DTM, where he became the youngest driver in history to secure the championship title in 2015. He then moved to Formula 1 with the support of Mercedes, where he contested 40 Grands Prix for Manor and Sauber, scoring six points. He then returned to the DTM.

Wehrlein was announced by Mahindra Racing during the 2018 Formula E pre-season test in Valencia. He had previously failed to reach agreement with HWA on a joint commitment in Formula E and parted company with Mercedes after many years. In just his second race, the 2019 Santiago E-Prix, he stood on the podium for the first time in second place. He finished his debut season in 12th place overall.

The following season, 2019/20, he left Mahindra shortly before the "sixpack season finale" in Berlin to join Porsche. Wehrlein has been driving for the team from Weissach since 2021. He celebrated his first Formula E win at the 2022 Mexico City E-Prix, which was also the first victory for Porsche in Formula E. In 2023, Wehrlein drove his strongest season to date and was one of the title contenders for a long time, but only finished fourth overall at the end of the season.
