Norman Nato made his debut in formula racing in 2010. He immediately scored a runner-up success in the F4 Eurocup 1.6, just behind Stoffel Vandoorne. He then changed through various Formula Renault racing series. In the process, he became runner-up in the Formula Renault 2.0 Alps Series in 2012. In 2015, Nato moved to the GP2 series, where he finished fifth overall the following year with three race wins.

After that, Nato moved into endurance racing. In 2019/20, he linked up with Rebellion Racing as a driver in the LMP1 category. He finished the season in third place overall with two wins. He also finished second in the 2020 24 Hours of Le Mans.

In 2018, Nato was initially signed by Venturi as a reserve driver for Formula E. After two years in that position, he was given a cockpit as one of the team's drivers for the 2021 World Championship season. Despite an E-Prix victory at the season finale in Berlin, he had to vacate his seat after just one season. The Frenchman became a reserve driver for Jaguar and in this capacity deputized for Sam Bird, who had injured his hand, at the season finale in Seoul. For the 2023 season, he moved to Nissan before making yet another switch to Andretti for 2024.

Nato is also involved as a test driver for the hydrogen racing project "Mission H24".
