Felipe Nasr won the European Formula BMW championship title in 2009 and also triumphed in British Formula 3 two years later. After three years in GP2 (2012 to 2014), in which he finished third overall in 2014, Nasr moved up to the "premier class". In 2015 and 2016, the Brazilian competed for Formula 1 team Sauber. His best individual result was a fifth-place finish in his debut race in Australia, while his best overall finish was 13th in the 2015 season.

Nasr made his Formula E debut at the 2019 Mexico City E-Prix, replacing Maximilian Günther at Dragon Racing. Just three rounds later, however, the Brazilian withdrew from the electric formula to focus on the North American IMSA sports car series.
