Andretti developed its own drivetrain for the second Formula E season, but it did not run as it should have. The US company thus spent another year on development and did not compete with its own powertrain until the 2016/17 season. In the years that followed, Andretti received increasing support from BMW, before the German automaker took over the manufacturer's license from Andretti for the fifth season.
