Formula E in London: Full preview of the title showdown & farewell to ExCeL

For the final time, Formula E will stage its season finale at London's ExCeL. Nine drivers remain mathematically in contention for the title ahead of the last two races, with only 14 points separating championship leader Jake Dennis from fourth-placed Oliver Rowland. Who are the favourites?

Jake Dennis heads to London as the championship leader, local hero and one of the favourites. The Andretti driver could secure his second Formula E World Championship as early as Saturday. However, Mitch Evans of Jaguar, Porsche driver Pascal Wehrlein and reigning World Champion Oliver Rowland of Nissan all still have realistic chances of claiming the title.

The championship battle could hardly be closer: Just 14 points separate Dennis at the top of the standings from fourth-placed Rowland. Five more drivers remain mathematically in contention. Edoardo Mortara, Antonio Felix da Costa, Nick Cassidy, Nico Müller and Nyck de Vries would, however, need a near-perfect weekend as well as major setbacks for the leading quartet.

Where will the London E-Prix take place?

The venue is the ExCeL London exhibition centre in the historic Docklands, directly beside the Royal Victoria Dock. Formula E's circuit passes through the exhibition halls and across the adjacent outdoor area.

The 2026 season finale will be Formula E's final event at the venue. From Season 13, the London E-Prix will take place at the permanent Brands Hatch circuit.

Fast Stats: London E-Prix

• No driver has won more Formula E races in London than Nick Cassidy. The Citroen driver has taken three victories in the British capital, winning both races in 2025 as well as the second race in 2023.
• Three drivers have already scored five podium finishes in London: Jake Dennis, Mitch Evans and Nyck de Vries. With 128 championship points, Dennis is also the most successful Formula E driver in London by points scored. De Vries is still waiting for his first victory at the venue, having finished second four times and third once.
• Mitch Evans is the only driver to have taken three pole positions in London. Sebastien Buemi, Nick Cassidy and Jake Dennis have each started from pole twice. Alex Lynn, Nico Prost, Stephane Sarrazin, Dan Ticktum and Stoffel Vandoorne have each claimed one pole position.
• Pascal Wehrlein has scored points in all ten of his Formula E starts at ExCeL, more consecutive points finishes at the venue than any other driver. His overall haul has nevertheless remained modest, as the Porsche driver finished tenth four times, ninth once and eighth once.
• London has not been a happy hunting ground for Taylor Barnard so far. The young British driver is still waiting for his first point at his home E-Prix.

Schedule & live coverage: When is the London E-Prix?

The London E-Prix is a double-header and will take place on Saturday, 15 August and Sunday, 16 August 2026. The weekend begins with Free Practice 1 at 17:00 CEST on Friday.

Free Practice 2 starts at 09:30 CEST on Saturday, followed by qualifying at 11:40 and the first race at 16:05. Sunday's action begins with Free Practice 3 at 09:30, before qualifying at 11:40 and the second race at 16:05.

What makes the London circuit so special?

The 2.077-kilometre ExCeL London Circuit is the only track on the Formula E calendar that runs through an exhibition hall and across an outdoor area. This unusual concept is made possible by the all-electric powertrains and lack of tailpipe emissions.

Within a single lap, the drivers move between the smooth indoor floor and the abrasive asphalt outside. Steep ramps at the entrances to the hall, sudden changes in lighting and concrete walls without run-off areas create additional challenges.

The difference between the indoor and outdoor sections becomes particularly significant in wet conditions, when grip levels can vary considerably around the lap. Success at ExCeL requires precision behind the wheel and strong traction out of its many slow corners.

How are the Formula E qualifying groups determined?

Formula E qualifying consists of two stages: the Groups stage and the Duels. The field is initially divided into two halves according to the Drivers' World Championship standings. Drivers in odd-numbered championship positions compete in Group A, while those in even-numbered positions form Group B.

The four fastest drivers from each ten-minute group session progress to the quarter-finals. From there, they compete head-to-head in the Duels for the best positions on the starting grid. The following groups therefore apply for Saturday's first race in London.

Weather forecast: Hot start followed by milder race days

London is expecting another hot day on Friday, with temperatures of up to 31°C. Maximum temperatures are forecast to fall to around 26°C for both race days.

The current forecast calls for sunny spells and only a low probability of rain. A wet race therefore appears unlikely at present, although the forecast should be checked again closer to the weekend.
