Nyck de Vries topped the second free practice session in Formula E. The Mahindra driver set a new track record of 1:07.521 minutes, beating Mitch Evans (Jaguar) by half a tenth of a second. Dan Ticktum (Kiro) came third ahead of Pascal Wehrlein (Porsche).
The 40-minute practice session began on time at 11 a.m. (CEST) with Sam Bird spinning at the so-called bus stop chicane. However, the McLaren driver did not crash on what is believed to be his penultimate Formula E race day and was able to continue. In the first few laps, the drivers gradually approached the track record set the previous day (1:08.026 minutes; Pascal Wehrlein; FP1).

During the first 15 minutes, the Jaguar and Envision drivers, among others, showed good pace. Nick Cassidy led the field, but was still a good one and a half seconds behind the lap record. Lola team boss Thomas Biermaier explained that the team had replaced the battery in Lucas di Grassi's car. The Brazilian had caused two red flags in the first free practice session due to a faulty relay. And promptly, di Grassi set the first 1:08 time of the session in attack mode.
Track record falls
A little later, he accidentally blocked Cassidy in the attack zone when he planned to clear the way for another driver on the inside lane. The Jaguar driver was just about able to avoid contact. Almost exactly halfway through the session, Edo Mortara set a new track record. Shortly afterwards, Bird set the first 1:07 lap and took the lead. Zane Maloney braked too late in turn 10 and had to cut through the run-off area.

The next fastest time came from Dan Ticktum in the Kiro. Wehrlein was also fast, but almost lost his Porsche at the exit of the chicane and lost time as a result. Mitch Evans, on the other hand, put in a powerful lap and took the lead with a margin of more than 3.5 tenths of a second. Stoffel Vandoorne made a mistake in turn 16. A little later, Robin Frijns spun at the same spot. Ticktum was in second place ahead of Jake Hughes.
Then the last five minutes began. Jake Dennis braked too late in Turn 1 and had to turn around in the run-off area. Meanwhile, Nyck de Vries set a new fastest time. He then impeded Cassidy on his fast lap. There were a few improvements in the final laps, but de Vries remained in front. Evans finished the session in second place ahead of Ticktum, Wehrlein and Hughes.
