Edoardo Mortara won the second free practice session. The session took place without rain, but initially began in drying conditions as it had rained overnight. The top five was completed by Antonio Felix da Costa, Jake Dennis, Joel Eriksson and Maximilian Günther.
The early session started on time at 06:00 local time (00:00 CEST) without rain. However, as it had rained overnight, the drivers initially took to the track in damp conditions. Almost all of them immediately set off to continue their preparations for today’s race day.
After Ticktum initially led the field, Eriksson made a statement, lapping just under a second faster than the rest of the field. However, his fastest time lasted only a few minutes. Dennis moved to the front with a time of 1:09.076 minutes.
De Vries with a problem in the pits
Meanwhile, a problem with the ‘break-by-wire’ system was detected on de Vries’ car. The Mahindra driver was forced to park his car in the garage. His team-mate, however, was not affected by the problem. Mortara was at the top of the timesheets just a few minutes before the end of the practice session, which had been shortened by ten minutes. The fastest time was 1:09.021 minutes. Behind Mortara were Felix da Costa, Dennis, Eriksson and Günther.
Shortly before the end, the drivers resumed their qualifying simulations. Only Nato got out of his Nissan earlier, as he will be starting the race from the back of the grid anyway. However, there were no changes to the top five. Mortara topped the session ahead of da Costa, Dennis, Eriksson and Günther.
