Formula E: Zak O'Sullivan set to become Maximilian Günther's Envision team-mate

Envision Racing appears to have found its driver line-up for the Gen4 era. According to The Race, Zak O'Sullivan is set to race alongside Maximilian Günther for the British Formula E team. The 21-year-old already knows Envision from several rookie outings and would make his Formula E debut in Season 13.

Envision Racing is also facing a complete reset ahead of the new season. The team is parting ways with Sebastien Buemi and Joel Eriksson. As e-Formula.news reported back in July, Maximilian Günther is believed to have already signed a contract for the upcoming season. Now, his team-mate also appears to have been decided.

According to The Race, former Formula 2 driver Zak O'Sullivan is set to complete the new line-up. The environment would not be entirely unfamiliar to O'Sullivan. The Briton has been working with Envision since 2025 and has driven for the team on several occasions during Formula E rookie tests.

From Williams junior to Formula E

After moving up from karting, O'Sullivan won the GB3 Championship in 2021. A year later, he stepped up to FIA Formula 3 and joined the Williams Driver Academy at the same time.

In 2023, O'Sullivan enjoyed his most successful season to date in the European junior single-seater ranks. Racing for Prema, he finished runner-up in the Formula 3 championship before being given the opportunity to drive for Williams in a Formula 1 practice session at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and subsequently at the Young Driver Test.

Two Formula 2 wins - but still a career setback

O'Sullivan stepped up to Formula 2 with ART Grand Prix in 2024. Despite taking two victories in Monaco and Spa, his Formula 2 campaign ended prematurely, primarily for financial reasons.

That brought his original path towards Formula 1 to a halt. O'Sullivan left the European junior single-seater ladder and made the move to Japan, competing in Super Formula and Super GT.

By that point, O'Sullivan had already established a connection with Envision. Thanks to his previous rookie outings, he has first-hand knowledge of both the team and the technical demands of a Formula E car.

A fresh start for Envision

With Günther and O'Sullivan, Envision would combine Formula E experience with young talent. The team could therefore embark on a complete sporting reset. In 2023, Envision won the Teams' World Championship with Nick Cassidy and Sebastien Buemi.

For O'Sullivan, the move would represent the next step back onto the international stage. Following his premature Formula 2 exit and subsequent move to Japan, a Formula E debut could now be next.

The Season 13 line-up has not yet been officially confirmed. Should the move materialise, however, Envision would enter the Gen4 era with an entirely new driver pairing in Günther and O'Sullivan.
