Nico Müller confident after Formula E team change: "Allows me to grow as a racing driver"

One of the big topics in the "Silly Season" before season 11 was Nico Müller's change of team: The Swiss left ABT after many years together in DTM and Formula E and joined the Andretti team. Müller was also appointed to the Porsche works driver squad at the same time. In episode 350 of our insider podcast ePod, the two-time DTM runner-up reveals the challenges of the change of scenery and the biggest differences between the two Formula E teams.
ABT Cupra finished the past two seasons with Nico Müller in 11th and 9th place in the team standings. Müller scored the most points for the team in both years. In contrast, Andretti celebrated the drivers' championship title with Jake Dennis in season 9 and even beat the Porsche works team to third place in the teams' standings in the same year.
"When you start a new season, the expectation is always to be at the front - regardless of how the previous season went. I don't think that's the main difference", Müller doesn't see his new team as being fundamentally different just because it has been more successful in the past.
However, this does have a certain influence. "Of course, Andretti has had a partner in Porsche for the last few years and now again, who has always provided a very competitive package. So this question mark at the start of a season is much smaller than it might have been in my situation over the last few years", he describes.
"The bigger differences are in the approach, like the processes, which are different," he continues. "The mentality, which is a bit different somewhere in an English team than in a German one - I think that's quite normal. You have to get used to it a little bit."
"You have to find out how you can utilise the strengths"
"Both have their strengths and their weaknesses", explains the Swiss. "You have to find out for yourself how you can utilise the strengths and not let the weaknesses influence you. It's always the same game somewhere."
However, he hopes that he will finally be able to attack at the front again after a familiarisation phase. "It takes a bit of time, but it is very, very exciting and allows me to continue to grow as a racing driver. And hopefully it will also give me the chance to regularly win trophies again."
In his 47 race starts in the electric series, Müller has finished on the podium just once so far: at the "Energy Chaos" race in Valencia in 2021, he benefited from the fact that many drivers ran out of energy shortly before the finish. Müller could claim his second podium finish in just a few days. The 2025 Mexico City E-Prix will take place on 11 January.
