Official: After 4 seasons powered by Porsche, Andretti becomes Formula E customer team of Nissan in Gen4

The next powertrain deal for the 2026/27 Formula E World Championship has been finalised: Andretti, previously a Porsche customer team, will compete with Nissan powertrains from next season onwards. The US team and the Japanese manufacturer announced this on Friday morning. The contract is set to run for several years.

From next season, Nissan will once again have a works team in Formula E in the form of Andretti. Since McLaren’s withdrawal from Formula E, the manufacturer has been competing without a customer team. This not only reduced its chances in the electric racing series’ manufacturers’ championship but also led to a significant lack of experience, particularly on new circuits: Whilst other manufacturers such as Jaguar, Porsche and Stellantis were able to gather data with four or even six cars, Nissan was limited to the information that could be gleaned from its two works cars.

In May, Porsche and Andretti the end of their partnership, which had been in place since Season 9. Andretti had switched to the Porsche 99X Electric following BMW’s withdrawal ahead of Season 9, instantly becoming title contenders. Jake Dennis won the first race of the new partnership, the Mexico City E-Prix, thereby laying the foundations for winning the 2023 Drivers’ World Championship. It was also Andretti’s first drivers’ title in Formula E.

The US team and Porsche remained closely linked in the years that followed. Andretti continued to rely on technology from Weissach, whilst Porsche even made its works drivers Andre Lotterer, David Beckmann and Nico Müller available to the customer team. For Porsche, Andretti was therefore not only an important partner on the sporting front, but also an additional source of data in the highly competitive manufacturers’ field of the electric racing series. Together with Andretti and the second customer team, Cupra Kiro, Porsche won the newly introduced Formula E Manufacturers’ World Championship title in the 2024/25 season.
