After his departure from the Porsche works team, Antonio Felix da Costa has found a new home in Formula E: The 2019-20 Formula E champion will compete in the electric series for Jaguar TCS Racing in the future. The team announced this in a press release today. The Portuguese driver will succeed Nick Cassidy, who moved to the new Citroen team after last season. Felix da Costa will receive a multi-year contract, meaning that he will also compete for the "big cat" in the Gen4 era.
13:09 British time - the exact time of the driver announcement at Jaguar TCS Racing is self-explanatory: Antonio Felix da Costa is bringing his number 13 from Porsche to his new team, while Mitch Evans will continue to race with "his" number 9 in the coming season.

Jaguar and Felix da Costa expect great results together
"Joining Jaguar TCS Racing, a team with a rich legacy in motorsport, is an incredible honour," says Felix da Costa. "The team's resilience and pursuit of performance and innovation is something I've always admired, and I'm looking forward to getting behind the wheel of the impressive Jaguar I-Type 7," says the Portuguese driver, eagerly anticipating the coming season.
Felix da Costa also had words of praise for his good friend and new teammate: "Partnering with Mitch, one of the most experienced drivers in Formula E and a close friend, is a privilege. I'm excited for this next chapter - to learn, push boundaries, and play my part in driving the team forward for Season 12 and beyond."
At Jaguar, the Portugese driver replaces reigning vice-world champion Cassidy. He has big shoes to fill, but his new team boss Ian James sees him as the ideal replacement: "We're delighted to welcome Felix da Costa to Jaguar TCS Racing. His performance over the last 11 years in this championship has been consistently impressive, and his approach to racing aligns perfectly with our values as a team."
After Jaguar TCS Racing's performance so far in the Gen3 era, the goal is clear – the British team wants to compete for the title. "As we enter the final season of the GEN3 Evo era, we're confident that we will see great results with António and Mitch, as they form arguably the most competitive and exciting driver pairing on the grid."
Felix da Costa is one of the most successful drivers in Formula E history
Felix da Costa has been competing in Formula E since the very first season, but missed four races in the first two seasons due to his parallel DTM programme with BMW. In 144 races, the Portuguese driver took eight pole positions, 12 race wins and 27 podium finishes. The highlight of his Formula E career was undoubtedly the 2019-20 season, which was characterised by the Covid-19 pandemic, when he confidently won the championship title with three wins and three second places.
Jaguar will be the fifth team for which Felix da Costa will compete in Formula E after Aguri (seasons 1 and 2), Andretti/BMW (seasons 3 to 5), DS Techeetah (seasons 6 to 8) and Porsche (seasons 9 to 11). He shares this record with his former team-mate Jean-Eric Vergne.
His new teammate Evans, on the other hand, has been with Jaguar since day one: both the team and the New Zealander made their Formula E debut in Hong Kong in 2016, at the start of the third Formula E season. Except for the second race of this year's Tokyo E-Prix, when his car was damaged beyond repair after an accident in qualifying, Evans has competed in every Formula E race for the team since then. In 126 races, he claimed eleven pole positions, 14 victories, 33 podium finishes and 999 points with Jaguar.
Evans is aiming to score his 1,000th championship point on 6 December, when Formula E kicks off its twelfth season in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Before that, pre-season testing in Valencia is scheduled for 27 to 31 October.
