Official: Zane Maloney joins Nissan & teams up with Formula E World Champion Rowland

It is now official: Zane Maloney will join Nissan Formula E Team for the Gen4 era. The Barbadian heads into his third season in the all-electric World Championship and will become teammate to Formula E World Champion Oliver Rowland. Maloney takes over Norman Nato's seat at the Japanese works team.

With Zane Maloney and Oliver Rowland, Nissan's driver line-up for the first season of the Gen4 era is complete. Rowland remains with the Japanese manufacturer as part of a multi-year agreement and will contest his fourth consecutive season for the works team. Overall, it will already be his seventh Formula E campaign with Nissan.

The Brit claimed the Drivers' World Championship in the 2024/25 season. During the most recent campaign, Rowland scored six podium finishes, including victory at the Monaco E-Prix, and finished fourth in the Drivers' Championship.

Maloney: "A great chance for me to now join a top manufacturer"

"When I came into Formula E, the team was winning the championship with Oli, so it's a great chance for me to now join a top manufacturer," says Maloney. "I've spent the last two seasons with a new team, developing my skills and trying to get the best results we could, so I'm really looking forward to taking this next step in my career."

The opportunity to work alongside Rowland is another major attraction for Maloney. "He's a World Champion and someone I watched when I was growing up, first winning races in Formula 2 and then in Formula E, so to be alongside him and learn from him will be really valuable."

Volpe: "We believe there is a lot more to come from him"

Nissan Team Principal Tommaso Volpe also sees significant development potential in Maloney. "Zane brings a different profile. He's young but already has two seasons of Formula E experience, and we believe there is a lot more to come from him," says Volpe.

"His results in Formula 2 showed the level of talent he has, and we see Gen4 as the perfect opportunity for him to build on those skills, making it a very fitting next step in his career."

With the experienced World Champion Rowland and 22-year-old Maloney, Nissan is therefore fielding two drivers at very different stages of their careers. "We're confident this line-up gives us a strong starting point for the Gen4 era," Volpe adds.

Rowland also believes his new teammate is well placed to make a strong start. Maloney's successful junior career and the two Formula E seasons he already has under his belt should provide a solid foundation.

Maloney replaces Nato & leaves Lola Yamaha ABT

At Nissan, Maloney succeeds Norman Nato. The Frenchman had already announced his departure from Nissan after the season finale in London and suggested that he would step away from Formula E for the time being. Nato scored 20 points during the 2025/26 season and finished 19th in the Drivers' Championship.

The move also brings Maloney's time with Lola Yamaha ABT to an end. In Lola Yamaha's first two Formula E seasons, he raced alongside Lucas di Grassi, who ended his active Formula E career at the London E-Prix. It remains unclear who will take over the team's two seats next season.

Maloney will begin his third Formula E season with the move to Nissan. During the most recent campaign, he recorded top-10 finishes in São Paulo, Monaco and Tokyo. Before stepping up to the all-electric World Championship, he had impressed with strong performances in Formula 2. At the official pre-season test in Jarama in November, Maloney will continue preparations for his first Nissan campaign alongside Rowland.
