Report: David Beckmann could replace Sergio Sette Camara at Kiro Formula E team

Kiro Race Co, formerly ERT, is the only team that has not yet announced its driver pairing for the eleventh Formula E season. Until recently, contract extensions with both Dan Ticktum and Sergio Sette Camara seemed very likely. Shortly after the announcement that Kiro will drive with Porsche powertrains next season, there are signs of a U-turn: Instead of Sergio Sette Camara, the young German driver David Beckmann could surprisingly be given a regular seat.

Dan Ticktum reportedly extended his contract earlier this month following the change of ownership by Forest Road, report the colleagues at The Race. Consequently, Brazilian Sergio Sette Camara would have to make way if Porsche reserve driver David Beckmann would join Kiro. The German already made his Formula E debut in Jakarta in 2023 as a replacement for Andre Lotterer at Andretti. Thanks to the new connection between Kiro and Porsche, he can hope for a regular seat.

The prerequisite, however, would be that Beckmann gets into the car for Kiro at the pre-season tests in Valencia and makes a convincing impression. The final decision on who gets the cockpit is apparently up to Kiro, not Porsche. At least that's what Porsche team principal Florian Modlinger says in the aforementioned report.

Modlinger confirms negotiations between Beckmann & Kiro

He also confirms: "He (Beckmann) is in talks with the team, but it's up to them. The team has to agree and be convinced." Modlinger believes that Beckmann would be a good help in working with the new German powertrain though: "He knows the systems, the car and the Porsche approach."

Beckmann himself did not want to comment on the rumours when asked by e-Formula.news.

Kiro is currently still weighing up whether the US team will rely on Beckmann or continue with Sergio Sette Camara. Another option being considered is reportedly Thomas Preining. The Austrian last tested for the Porsche works team at the rookie test in Berlin and won the DTM with Porsche in 2023. However, a regular cockpit for Preining seems rather unrealistic to us.

We will find out who will jump into the second Kiro car alongside Dan Ticktum on 4 November at the latest, when the pre-season tests start in Valencia.
