After a far too long break following the last two races in Jeddah, Formula E is finally back in full swing this weekend as the 22 drivers once again visit a new circuit. For the first time since the first Formula E season in 2015, they will be travelling to Miami in Florida. The race will be held on a modified infield circuit of the Homestead-Miami Speedway, unlike the previous Evo sessions, which took place on the Formula 1 circuit in Miami.
Where exactly will the Formula E race take place?
Miami is located in Florida at the southernmost tip of the eastern part of the state, the south of the USA. The city is known as a hotspot for luxury and its impressive neon lights directly on Miami Beach. Miami itself only has around 450,000 inhabitants, but if you take the continuously built-up metropolitan region of Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach, there are six million inhabitants.
The Homestead racing complex is located in the south of the city, bordering the wilderness area of the Southern Glades, a harbinger of the world-famous Everglades National Park. The distance between the racetrack and the ocean is just over five kilometres. In recent times, only NASCAR has made a guest appearance as a notable racing series at the otherwise little-used speedway.
Fast-Stats | Miami
- Formula E returns to Miami for the first time in 3,684 days - by far the longest break between two races in the same city (ahead of London, 1,847 days and Marrakesh, 854 days)
- None of the current Formula E drivers have ever stood on the podium in Miami. Nico Prost, Scott Speed and Daniel Abt are all no longer driving in the electric series.
- The best-placed of the current Formula E drivers at the time was Antonio Felix da Costa, who finished in 6th place in the Amlin Aguri.
- The most successful driver in the USA in terms of points is Lucas di Grassi: he scored 156 points in the 16 races in this country, more than anyone else.
- Antonio Felix da Costa, however, has the best track record in the States in the recent past: He has won three of the last four E-Prix in the USA and has finished on the podium in five of the last six races there.
- Oliver Rowland, on the other hand, has had the longest lull: he last scored points in the States in 2021. Admittedly, he did not compete in 2023 (resignation from Mahindra) and 2024 (illness).
Who is broadcasting the Formula E race in Miami on TV & livestream?
The Miami E-Prix will be one of the few individual races on this year's racing calendar. The 1st free practice session opens the weekend on Friday evening at 10pm. The 2nd free practice session will take place on Saturday at midday, followed by qualifying in the afternoon. The E-Prix will be released in the evening at 8pm.
The broadcasters for the race and qualifying will depend on your region. But as usual, e-Formula.news offers English-language live streams for both free practice sessions. On top of that, you can follow all sessions of the Jeddah E-Prix in our popular Formula E Live Ticker.

What characterises the race track in Miami?
The infield of the Homestead-Miami Speedway falls under the category of permanent race track and is far from being a race through the streets of the big city. At 3.551 kilometres, it is also the longest track in Formula E history, replacing Beijing in season 1. Formula E makes little use of the oval used by NASCAR. Only smaller sections of the back straight, the start-finish straight and the pit lane are shared by the two series.
The layout promises to be fast. With three similarly long straights and a fourth, which is interrupted by an additional chicane for Formula E, slipstreaming will be very important. There are hardly any heavy braking zones, but plenty of fast kinks. At first glance, the hairpin bend at turn 8 and turn 6 look like the best overtaking opportunities. Attack mode is activated in turn 4.
In which order do the drivers start qualifying?
In Formula E, qualifying takes place in two sections: Group stage and knockout stage. For group qualifying, the driver field is initially divided into two halves, with all drivers in the odd-numbered championship positions (positions 1, 3, 5, 7, etc.) competing in Group A and the drivers in the even-numbered positions in Group B.
The four drivers with the fastest lap times in their group after twelve minutes will then move on to the quarter-finals, where they will duel for the best grid positions. The qualifying groups for the Miami race weekend are as follows.
What will the weather be like in Miami?
It looks like perfect beach weather. The summery temperatures of around 27 degrees Celsius will be accompanied by plenty of sunshine and occasional patches of cloud. There is unlikely to be any rain. The rainy and stormy weather in the days leading up to the race should have disappeared by then.
Who are the favourites?
First of all, I would assume that Oliver Rowland will score points in the USA for the first time since 2021. The world championship leader will also be the driver to beat. It will be interesting to see whether Porsche can keep up and whether Jaguar can finally put in a solid performance again. However, the Porsche customer team Andretti in particular will be keen to achieve a good result in the USA and will try everything to be among the front runners.
