The former Lola Yamaha ABT Formula E team will compete in the Gen4 era under the name Lola Formula E Team. Whilst the split from ABT Sportsline was already known, Yamaha is also being dropped from the team name. However, the Japanese manufacturer remains a technical partner. In addition, Gerry Hughes is joining the team as deputy team principal.

From next season, Lola will take over racing operations itself, having previously relied on ABT Sportsline to manage the cars. The team will operate from its new headquarters in Silverstone in future. According to Lola, the rebranding is intended to underline the British manufacturer’s increased independence.

More surprising is the removal of Yamaha from the team name; after all, both companies had already extended their partnership for the Gen4 era. Yamaha remains responsible for the development of the powertrain. Lola’s managing director, Mishern Chetty, emphasises that the Japanese manufacturer will continue to be a central part of the project.

Lola has also appointed Gerry Hughes as Deputy Team Principal. The former NIO Formula E Team Principal brings experience from Formula 1, IndyCar and touring car racing. Hughes, who previously worked for Lola, succeeds Fred Espinos and will oversee day-to-day operations and all sporting matters. Mark Preston remains Team Principal.
