As early as October 2022, Formula E signed a letter of intent to hold a race with the regional parliament of the Japanese capital. In June 2023, the Tokyo E-Prix finally appeared officially for the first time in the race calendar for season 10 of the electric series. The debut race took place on 30 March 2024.
For the Tokyo E-Prix, a circuit was set up on the streets around the Tokyo Big Sight convention centre on the shores of Tokyo Bay in the port of the metropolis of millions, similar to the one in Hong Kong a few years ago. The debut race in Japan was won by Maserati driver Maximilian Günther.
In 2025, two races will be held in Tokyo as part of a double header.
