Nick Cassidy: Peugeot WEC test an indication of dual programme alongside Formula E with MSG Racing?

There are increasing indications that Nick Cassidy will be competing in Formula E with MSG Racing, the former Maserati team, in the coming season. In a joint post with the official Peugeot Sport account on Instagram, a fictitious conversation between the French brand and the New Zealander is shown in which Cassidy is invited to a test in Austin (Texas) in September. A clear indication that Cassidy has now signed with Stellantis after two seasons with Jaguar and is expected to drive a double programme from December.

This confirms what has been rumoured in the paddock for many weeks: Cassidy is said to have signed a long-term agreement with Stellantis for cockpits in Formula E and the World Endurance Championship (WEC). Stellantis competes here with the Peugeot brand and has already fielded several Formula E drivers in the past: Nico Müller, Stoffel Vandoorne and Jean-Eric Vergne, plus ex-Formula E driver Loic Duval. Mikkel Jensen, who participated in the Formula E rookie training session for Cupra Kiro in Jeddah, is also part of the Peugeot WEC squad.

As it is rumoured that the decision on the choice of driver for the Stellantis works team DS Penske lies in the hands of Jay Penske, who is said to have signed up-and-coming talent Taylor Barnard from McLaren alongside Max Günther, there would only be places available for the company's new works driver at the second Stellantis team MSG Racing. However, it is also clear that the team will no longer be called Maserati MSG Racing, according to a media report, the Italian sports car brand will disappear from Formula E and concentrate on GT racing.

Stellantis would have a sufficient number of potential brands at its disposal. After the Opel management team visited the Monaco E-Prix, there is speculation about the German brand entering Formula E. However, this is not expected until season 13, with the start of the Gen4 era - presumably then for the first time with its own team, which will be owned by Stellantis. To date, Stellantis has only ever entered into partnerships with existing teams (Virgin Racing, Techeetah, Penske and MSG Racing).

The Citroen brand is also highly regarded in the paddock - the French brand has not been represented in international motorsport at all since its withdrawal from the World Rally Championship at the end of 2019. However, we will probably not know for sure until October, when the FIA publishes the list of participants for the pre-season tests in Valencia (Spain). However, nobody doubts that Cassidy's name will also be on this list.
